The George at Ashley is indeed a charming country pub with restaurant and accommodation in the picturesque village of Ashley, just 5 miles north east of Market Harborough. It proudly mixes tradition with a light modern touch, and is highly rated by scores of recent reviews.
Taken over by Neil and Steph Price on 14th August 2020, (in the middle of the covid pandemic!), this family run pub and restaurant with 6 en-suite B&B rooms provides a warm, friendly atmosphere for visitors and locals alike looking for a pleasant dining experience, an overnight stay or simply to enjoy a relaxing drink in an enchanting environment.
And while the property has recently undergone a total refurbishment, it still retains many original features like open fires and wood beams, keeping a traditional pub vibe but now with a delightful modern twist.
Accommodation:
The well decorated rooms with attached bathroom are in the old coach house converted stable block, offering good space to stay over if you're visiting friends or family nearby, attending an event, or passing by on business.
A full range of amenities are available including free Wi-Fi and a delicious cooked breakfast is included in the room rate.
The Bar has a good selection of lagers on tap and hand pulled ales. And there is a vast array of gins to suit every palette together with an extensive wine list supplied by Duncan Murray Wines in Market Harborough to choose from.
The Restaurant offers a variety of fayre from a light lunch through to a full A la carte experience or a traditional Sunday lunch with the family, all in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The kitchen takes pride in using high quality, locally sourced, fresh produce much of which comes from less than 30 miles away.
Weekdays cater for special Steak Nights, Pie Nights and Fish Nights, and Afternoon Teas at The George on Thursdays are 'to die for', with a selection of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and cakes together with a freshly ground Jute Coffee or Joe's fine teas.
The A la Carte menu is changed every five weeks throughout the year according to the seasons and to offer variety, focusing on high quality fresh locally sourced ingredients, and featuring seasonal game.
