Beverly Moss invites her new neighbours, Angela and Tony, over for drinks. She has also invited her neighbour Sue, whose fifteen year-old daughter Abigail is having a party of her own at home. The atmosphere at Beverly’s gathering is rather stiff and insensitive at first, as only the British middle-class can be when surrounded by virtual strangers. But then her husband Laurence arrives and the couple begin sniping at each other, the regularly topped-up drinks take effect and some none-too-subtle flirting occurs between certain guests – and the evening takes on a very different tone...
